Artist, Medical Illustrator/ Multimedia Designer & Writer...enjoying spending more time on my own creative projects, travelling & sharing a love of art.

Based in Lancashire, England, Anne Corless has had a busy and varied career in the creative arts, working as an Artist, Medical Illustrator/ Multimedia Designer, Creative Educator and Writer. Experienced with both traditional and digital media, Anne enjoys working in different areas of the creative arts.
As a Fine Artist and Illustrator:
Over the years Anne has worked on numerous commissions and art projects including portraiture, landscape art and animal art, book illustration, art design for products and on numerous wildlife conservation projects. She has exhibited and sold artwork in galleries and at exhibitions.
With a strong interest in the natural world Anne enjoys going on art journeys around the world, creating art, film-making and writing about art and travel experiences. In addition to working with a wide range of traditional art media, Anne is an experienced digital artist, photographer, videographer and editor, working with Adobe Creative Cloud.
Anne is a member of the Fine Art Trade Guild and was honoured to be inducted into the Hall of Fame in May 2022. Anne sat on the Guild's Fine Art Committee for ten years (five years as Chair). She also served as North West Branch Master of the Guild for 3 years. She is a Fellow of the Guild Society of Artists.
Anne is a member of the Association of Illustrators and an Emeritus Member of Artists for Conservation. She is a Founder Member, the Inaugural Chairman and Honorary Member of the Association of Animal Artists. Anne is the Founder of the AAA Inaugural Chairman's Award which she co-judged for ten years and co-sponsored with Derwent, Rosemary & Co Artists Brushes, St Cuthberts Mill and The Artist and Leisure Painter magazines. The Award ended in 2024.
As a Medical Artist and Multimedia Designer:
Anne enjoys creating medical and scientific illustrations and is a Registered Medical Illustrator on the Academy of Health Sciences Register accredited by the Professional Standards Authority. Anne is a professional member of the Medical Artists Association (UK) and the Association of Medical Illustrators (USA). With a background in nursing and midwifery (Registered Nurse/ Registered Midwife), a B.A. (Hons) Degree in Design (specialising in scientific and natural history illustration) and a postgraduate qualification (MAA) in medical art, Anne has worked with the clients from around the world. Some of her specialist medical artwork is available on licence from the Wellcome Collection, is used in training and education by NHS England and by medical journals worldwide. Anne has worked with global clients (some returning for future projects) including the European Association for Cardio-Thoracic Surgery (EACTS) and Voice Council magazine. She has experience of working on complex projects such as with Clatterbridge Hospital in the UK. Working as project manager in collaboration with BBC Radio Merseyside and Up For Arts she designed floor to ceiling wallpapers from artwork created by attendees of her workshops in Liverpool, for the world's first mobile cancer treatment centre. Anne has experience of creating complex illustrations for manufacturers; a series of zoological illustrations from one project can be found in use worldwide.
As an Artist in Residence, Art Instructor, Guest Lecturer and Art Demonstrator :
A qualified art instructor and Adobe Certified Educator, Anne enjoys teaching creative art skills at events, on cruise ships, on art holidays and at conferences. A life of travel, living around the world and observing wildlife in natural habitats, has resulted in Anne's love of wildlife art. She is honoured to be an Artist in Residence/ Art Instructor with Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines and enjoys collaborating with wildlife charities such as ORCA.
A favourite venue is Nature in Art, in Gloucestershire, where Anne has been Artist in Residence many times.
Anne has given talks for the Fine Art Trade Guild, at the Spring Fair International at the NEC, at the Guild Awards and at Making Pictures events. She has represented the Guild at Wessex Art and Framing Roadshows. Anne was Artist in Residence at the Guild's Art, Print & Frame Expos in 2023 and 2024.
Anne enjoyed her role as Resident Artist at BBC Radio Lancashire over the years, where she taught art workshops and gave art demonstrations, often live on air, including a BBC Arts Master Class on portraiture to an invited audience. She also took part in outside broadcasts. Anne has run art workshops and projects at BBC Radio Merseyside, has collaborated with Up for Arts, Voluntary Arts UK and The Campaign for Drawing and been interviewed by BBC Radio Manchester.
Anne's experience working as a Guest Lecturer in Medical Art/ Illustration includes giving an illustrated presentation at an international medical conference in Manchester and teaching an interactive anatomy workshop to medical students at the Queen Mary and Barts and the London Neuroscience Society.
As a Writer:
Anne enjoys writing and illustrating articles for art magazines and art blogs. She has written numerous articles for art industry magazines such as Art + Framing Today magazine (previously Art Business Today), Leisure Painter magazine and as an invited writer for Blogs, including for the Fine Art Trade Guild and Rosemary & Co Artists Brushes. Articles have ranged from product reviews, illustrated stories of her travels around the world, art business articles for artists and a feature on wildlife art, including interviews with renowned wildlife artists. Anne is a member of the Society of Authors.
As a Derwent Ambassador:
Anne is honoured to be a Derwent Art Ambassador. She loves sharing her interest in art materials and techniques. Over the years she has been a regular visitor, as Artist in Residence at Derwent’s “magical” Pencil Museum in the Lake District and at Patchings' Art Festival in Nottinghamshire. She has taught art workshops for Derwent and Leisure Painter/ The Artist magazines and written articles on art materials. In 2023 Anne gave a livestream landscape art/ plein air demonstration for John Lewis & Partners, in collaboration with Derwent and the National Trust at one of their historic houses in Northumberland, in aid of the Riverlands project. Staying over at the property, Anne then filmed a second art demonstration the next day, later editing the video, for the exclusive use of John Lewis & Partners.
Now semi-retired, Anne is enjoying a focus on writing and illustration, working in her home studio. Travel remains an important part of life and Anne enjoys the challenge of working on new creative projects.
